Comfort Teddy Co-ordinator

Comfort Teddies is a collaborative project between Children 1st, Police Scotland and the British Transport Police. Members of the public knit and donate teddies which will be given by police officers to comfort children affected by traumatic events. Comfort teddies are intended to be a simple distraction to take a child's focus away from potentially upsetting circumstances, help police officers build a relationship with them and hopefully turn the experience into something positive.
The bears are dressed in a Children 1st t-shirt that provides information to parents and carers about Children 1st’s Parentline, so that they can seek any support or information that they may need.
The scheme began in Dundee and is rapidly spreading across Scotland.

Key Tasks
Volunteers will undertake some of the following tasks:
•Send out knitting patterns as requested
•Collect teddies from groups and individuals (for this reason this opportunity would be best suited to someone with access to a car but if you would be happy to do this by public transport we would still love to hear from you).
•Quality check donated teddies seams, face, quality of wool, no foreign objects or inappropriate buttons
•Dress teddies in Children 1st t-shirts and add label
•Send thank you’s for teddies donated
•Publicly thank groups for donating teddies (for example on social media)
•Take details of individuals or groups who have donated knitted teddies so that we can thank them and keep in touch (in line with data protection guidelines)
•Update our database
•Take teddies to Police Stations / arrange for collection

Ideally we are looking for someone who can commit to about 3 hours per week for at least 6 months. Volunteering would take place within our office hours (9-5, Monday to Friday) and ideally you would be able to volunteer at the same time and on the same day every week to allow us to make sure that there is desk space for you. We can agree a time together which works for you.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply by clicking the red 'Apply' button below. We will then send you an application form by email and will invite you in for an informal chat once you have returned the completed form. If this process is unsuitable for you in anyway, please contact the volunteer co-coordinator directly.
